Re: Tyvek versus Gaffa tape for temporary attachment points?

In a test once I put a strip of gaffers tape (available in pro camera shops & it aint cheap) below the water line of a 16' pvc river raft at the beginning of the season. I ran whitewater most weekends and some extended trips that summer (many miles of rivers) and didn't think anymore about the tape....

Rancheria Kern run

Monday and Tuesday, April 4th & 5th I will be packrafting the Rancheria Road Bridge section of what I call the lower, lower, lower, Kern River in SoCal. This is a nice tree lined class II and II+ run of about six miles through the hills (rocky at low flows). At this point in time there is only one o...

Re: Unrigged explorer

I have a buyer lined up in the US right now, which makes it easier for me. However, if that falls through I'll be posting it for sale here again.

Thanks for your interest and I apologize for not getting back to you.

Re: Packraft Discrimination

I always figured my reply, if I got into this situation would be the same as another poster stated. One chamber is the boat, two more are in the seat, and the fourth would be the shorty air mattress. My seat is always fastened so it won't leave the boat in a flip and so is the mattress strapped in. ...

Re: Preparing a boat to carry -- fold or roll?

Absolutely amazing! I tried this technique with my Explorer and I made one more fold after the above description. This folded the whole flat pack in half thus returning it to a fairly round bundle. The amazing part is that I ended up with a smaller, tighter, package than I get when I roll the boat a...

Re: TYPAR tape?

Thanks, that's good information, especially about the cold performance. I've seen some sticky tapes that can just pop loose when cold. My testing of this tape showed it definitely stuck well. Down side is; if it is removed it leaves a sticky surface where it was. That area then has to be cleaned off...

Re: seat questions and answers

This is sooo refreshing! Can you imagine getting a posting like this from a manufacturer in China?

Way to go Sheri!

Re: Where It All Began...

That's the design I need. Tubes getting bigger in the rear, where I sit, to float my 230 pounds. I might have been able to get all of the way down the low water Escalante in that boat :) Bump and grind 37 miles in my Fiord Explorer before giving up and hiking out Fence Canyon.

Re: A Message from the Alpacka Designer: Mods & New Boat

I've been using thigh straps for many years in various IK's, including CatIK's, and I wouldn't be without them. However, I agree with Sheri, that the Alpacka rafts are such that I can see where you couldn't just straighten your legs and release from the straps. In an IK that is exactly what I do and...

TYPAR tape?

TYPAR tape? No not TYVEK, TYPAR tape, has anyone used it for either temporary or permanent repairs? It is a translucent light gray and used for the same construction purposes as TYVEK tape. I saw it and bought a roll to experiment with. It seems to stick even better than TYVEK and when pulled off, ...

Re: Spring Escalante - Request for Partners

We have an Escalante trip going from May 16 to the 22nd. Putting in at the bridge and getting a boat pickup on the silt sump. Shared cost for the boat and shuttle. Mark and Vicki at the Utah Canyons Store have taken on the task of planning the trip and at this point there are only three of us starti...
